Watching the World Change

Going back to Cincinnati last week was strange.  It is often odd to visit the city I spent so many years in.  I went to high school there and I started off life as a young adult there.  It is always nice to see friends and family, but it is all so strange.  I look around and what I remember as every day common place has been altered.

Gone are the shops and people I once knew to be replaced by empty buildings and new shops.  It is odd to see how the economy is effected there.  I think it hit harder in Ohio than in Kansas City.  Some of the largest places of commerce are now deserted and shutting down.  Things are moving to new areas.  I drove through the town remembering how things once were.  I looked around at all the memories I had on every street corner.

There was something nice and depressing at the same time about all this.  The people I knew seem to be getting older, and moving on with their lives.  And I want to see the world I left.  I guess I understand the concept of not being able to go back.  It is just sad to think that all those places and friends will never occur at the same place and time again.
